President Gustavo Petro Announces Colombia to Break Diplomatic Ties with Israel

In this video posted by the Palestina Hoy X (Twitter) account a short while ago, Colombian president Gustavo Petro says the following at a May Day rally held today in the country’s capital Bogota:
"Aquí delante de ustedes, el Gobierno del Cambio, el presidente, informa que mañana se romperán las relaciones diplomáticas con Israel por tener un presidente genocida".
My English translation below:
“Here, before you, the government of change, the president, informs you that tomorrow [2 May] we will break diplomatic ties with Israel for having a genocidal president.”
You can read an account of Petro’s announcement here (in Spanish). Here, he is reported as saying, “If Palestine dies, so does humanity.”
Before Petro became president of Colombia in August 2022, Colombia was often called the Israel of Latin America due to the role it played in the region as an enforcer for the US government.
Times have certainly changed. Massive respect to Petro for his courage in denouncing Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
