On Tuesday 3 September my new Alborada Films documentary Mother, Country was screened at the Garden Cinema in London. For the live post-screening Q&A I was joined by my mother Cristina Godoy-Navarrete and father Roberto Navarrete (who both feature in the film). The Q&A was chaired by Matt Kennard, a brilliant journalist and co-founder of the independent media outlet Declassified UK (DCUK). Thanks to Abla Kandalaft at the Garden Cinema for inviting me to show the film at this beautiful venue.
You can listen to the full Q&A above. A short video below with Matt’s initial reaction to the film and first question.

Filmed over more than three years, this is how I've described Mother, Country:
"Pablo Navarrete's parents were forced to leave Chile after a military coup on 11 September 1973. They arrived in the UK as political refugees after spending time in the Pinochet dictatorship’s torture centres. They didn’t know it then, but Britain would be where they would settle, have a family, and still live, nearly 50 years later. Filmed over more than three years, Mother, Country is a deeply personal film that follows the director as he travels to Chile with his parents in 2020 to witness a people’s uprising and finally confront their past.”
I've written a short article about the film which you can read here. Watch a teaser for the film here. Click here to read a five-star review of the documentary on the film website DMovies.
There are four upcoming UK screenings of Mother, Country (all followed by live Q&As). Click here for information.
